相撲について about Sumo

相撲は日本固有の宗教である神道に基づいた神事です。
Sumo is Shinto ritual based on the Shinto which is religion peculiar to Japan.


古くから日本国内各地で「奉納相撲」が行われ、現在も続いています。
"A ritual sumo match" is performed in all parts of Japan from old days and continues now.


選ばれた男性が神前で相撲をとり、神々に敬意と感謝を表します。
Chosen men take the sumo in front of Gods, and people express respect and thanks to gods.


私が住んでいる広島県の沖に大三島（愛媛県）があり、そこには大山祇神社があります。
There is Omi-shima Island (Ehime) in the offing of Hiroshima where I live in, and there is an Oyamazumi Shrine there.
















そこでは春と秋に「一人角力」という神事が行われます。
"Hitori Sumo" of the Shinto ritual is performed in spring and autumn at that Shrine.





















「稲の精霊」と選ばれた男性「一力山」が相撲をとり、どちらが勝つかで豊穣を占います。
"Ichirikiyama" of "an fairy of the rice" and a chosen man takes the sumo, and people tell a crop with which wins.


















ちなみに、必ず「稲の精霊」が勝ちます。
By the way, "a fairy of the rice" wins by all means.
